I didn't know him very well, but there used to be a JW owned a restaurant in Washington DC, K Street I think. From memory I think he was Lebonese. He was a nice guy.
He always gave free meals to Bethelites ...

jw's bought a restaurant here
by orbison11 ina jw's couple bought a restaurant , relatively nice one too, here in town.
so i am doing my part in spreading the good news about how my son, a member of their church, had his assembly here in my town 3 weekends ago and was not allowed to talk to me due to my no longer beign a jw (and my shop is 2 blocks from the arena they had their assembly in).
i have not spoken with him in 8 years.

After I walked away from JWs, I looked at other Christian denominations, but found them equally unsatisfacotry, even if less corrosive, than WT.
So starting from first principles, I researched whether the Bible was realy inspired. Thanks to the abundance of evidence out there, it didn't take too long. It wasn't. It is full of contradictions, immorality and sadistic cruelty. It brought home to me, while I'd been a JW, the mind's capacity to ignore what we don't want to see.
On whether God existed. I was disposed towards agnosticism, but the more I read and thought about it, I realised it was simply dodging the question. As a JW we had been indoctrinated for years in all sorts of obscure reasons for theism, so it was refreshing to read the clarity and common sense of atheist literature. In the end I couldn't dispute the logic.

Who is the next most powerful/dominant member of the GB after Jaracz?
by yaddayadda infor some reason there is a consensus on the board that teddy jaracz is currently the most dominant, powerful member of the gb.
i'm not quite sure where that view comes from, but assuming it is true, my question is: who will replace him when he finally dies?
jaracz is 82, recently had a heart attack, but evidently he is well again and still very energetic so he will probably be around for quite a few years yet.

What must be happening is these ancient old buzzards get to vote on important decisions on the GB when they are most probably not up to it mentally anymore. No doubt they get to a certain age (wheel-chair bound, half blind and deaf, in nappies) when they must be voting purely on how their favourite other GB member votes, or some personality that dominates them or who they admire.
Eactly right, yadda.
A friend who used to make presentations to the GB said the older ones would often nod off after about 10 minutes and when the vote came, would have to be reminded what they were voting for.

by new_account ini was doing an image search on google and found a link to a website that appears to fully support the watchtower org.

interesting thing to me is the pictures that it shows, some i have never seen in offical literature, yet they look like they couldve have been ones made but not used, or something i dont know.. and others that resemble images from books such as the revelation book... (the city, pearls etc).

There's another angle you might find interesting.
I was talking to an xJW a couple of months ago who, many years ago, married a JW wife when they were both very young. After a few years he had an affair with a woman at work. He was disfellowshipped for adultery and his JW wife divorced him (there were no children).
His JW ex-wife is remarried and he eventually married the non-JW woman and they have been very happy together ever since. She was also of immense help in helping him readjust to non-JW life, and this included encouraging him to investigate the WT organisation, as a result of which he has no intention of ever returning. The thought of returning to a KH is repulsive to him. I suggested he could simply 'fake it' to get reinstated, and then just stop attending, but he said that would now be wholly incompatible with his sense of personal morality... That put me in my place!
The problem is that his brain-dead JW parents, siblings and extended family still strictly shun him, even though he's now leading a upstanding, moral life, has a well respected job and is a pillar of his local community. But there's absolutely no way he is now able to restore relations with his family.
